Dry and itchy scalp.
A dry scalp is thin and thirsty. A constant itching and tightening sensation on the scalp and dry spots appear on the uncomfortable and irritating skin. Scalp dryness can also cause flaking, hair loss, and hair brittleness.
In a dry scalp, sebum has decreased. The skin is naturally protected by a combination of water and fat, the so-called lipid film, also called the hydrolipid film. When this natural skin lubricant weakens, the skin becomes complex, dry, sensitive, and itchy.
The most common factors causing scalp dryness are:
- Excessive hair washing.
- Changes in indoor and outdoor air.
- Long hot showers.
- Age.
- Stress.
- Some medicines.
- Wrong hair products.
- External factors include UV radiation, air pollution, and low humidity in winter.
