Acne on the scalp.
Acne is a common skin problem that usually occurs on the face, back, and chest. However, it can also appear on the scalp.
Acne on the scalp can be caused by many reasons, such as hormonal changes, oiliness of the skin in general, improper hair washing, poor hygiene, skin inflammation, and blocked sebaceous glands. Clogged sebaceous glands can be caused by, for example, excessive sweating, using hair products, or a hat that is too tight.
Acne on the scalp may appear as tiny red pimples or large, painful cysts. In some people, scalp acne can also cause itching and flaking.
Treat your acne at home with hair care products that contain salicylic acid or zinc pyrithione. If it is very bad, you may need medicines or antibiotics from a doctor.
